Base Miles
Practicing the Cue Sheets |
Fat biking with the Mike and Ryan |
Riding on the moon |
Frozen Snow Drifts |
I have maintained a training log for the past few years, for my Trans Iowa attempts especially. This is week number 7 of my 20 week plan. On week number 7 of 2013 and 2014 this was a very bad week as far as mileage goes. Maybe I was to busy or sick or tired or whatever, this year is a completely different story.
For 2015 I have been able to meet or exceed my goals every week. That makes me happy, it also makes it much easier. Falling short on one week and trying to get back on track the next is tough. Yesterdays 105 miler was noticeably easier than last weeks century, I hope to just keep building from here.
I have some pretty big changes coming up in February but those changes also bring vacation time so it may not affect the plan too much. We will see, lifes about balance right?

5 Stages of a Sunrise
Stage 1 |
Stage 2 |
Stage 3 |
Stage 4 |
Stage 5 and daytime |
Lack of hills and trees = abundance of wind |
Yesterday was the first day of spring around here. 36 degrees in January? I'll take that any day! It came at a cost though, strong winds. I had plans for the afternoon so if I wanted to achieve my goals, I would have to get out early.
I have never done a century in January. I don't think I've ever attempted a century in January. I started off with soul crushing headwinds for the first 40 miles, heading straight into the wind to get it out of the way. Then turned around and flew back north for fifty miles. At mile 91 I started to get some hunger grumbling, and reached for my sweet and salty nut bar, but it was gone. I must have dropped it. I had no food, 3 empty bottles, and 9 miles of headwinds left.
All I could do was smile and take it.

Kettle Moraine - John Muir Trails
The Kettle Moraine Trails do not get groomed for fat bikes but they see so much traffic that it really doesn't need it. As of 1/13/15 the shorter loops were in good shape with a wide packed path to ride on. The longer loops are a hit and miss right now, some have a decent rut to follow, others need more tires to pack things down.
